Literature Text

She's dying.
Fading into an oblivion
Deeper than which my old apprentice has fallen.
I can't pull her back.
Don't surrender Padmé.

Tired of trying
Hurting from crying,
She knows something pure:
Anakin will return.
How does she know?

She surrenders to their love
Trust in the twins being loved,
Telling me what she knows,
There is still good in him.
Why does she have to die?

I can only watch.
Holding this new life,
Watching the old one burn
And fade away.
Please Padmé, find the strength.

Begging her to thrive
Raise Luke and Leia.
I'll be at your side.
I'll help you train them
Their force signature strong.

Padmé's is not.
The will to live
Has died with Anakin,
She and I both know it:
Vader is born.

She slips away.
I originally called this poem 'Don't Surrender', but changed it at the last minute. This is from Obi-Wan's POV.

This literally made me want to cry, and that doesn't happen often anymore.  Well done, RoverGirl.  Fantastic & effective evoction of sorrow and bittersweet love.  The "letting go", the release, was done masterfully so that instead of feeling like despair, Padme's death was portrayed as almost... gentle.  Soft.  Sad, yes, very much, but hopeful too, for "Anakin will return."

Many thanks for this Star Wars poem; it's brought the movie & characters back to life for me, enhancing it just a little bit more now that I've read "She Slips Away".
